Eyebrow Threading is a practice of shaping the eyebrows using a cotton thread. The twisting action of the thread traps the hair and lifts it out of the follicle. It’s a very gentle, sanitary, and painless way of removing unwanted facial Hair. Threading is also used to remove hair from the upper and lower lip as well as other areas of the face. This method of hair removal is more effective and less painful than tweezing & waxing. Hair re-growth becomes finer and sparser after regular treatments.

In distinction to waxing, the top layers of skin are not peeled or traumatized in the process. The result ...a safe, simple, rapid, and highly effective method of hair removal. Because there is minimal chance of irritation, it is very well suited for the sensitive skin.

Eyebrows Threading - Advantage Over Other Techniques

Burn-free method Most waxes are used warm, but can be heated up too much and burn the skin resulting in extreme pain and scabby skin. There's no chance of getting scorched with threading. It can also take off top layers of healthy skin.

No wrinkle/saggy skin when you wax you not only pull the hair but also pull on the skin which is very delicate and after a while it will become saggy, because a layer of skin is removed during each session of wax.

Sensitive Skin The skin around the eyes is thin, soft and sensitive and can get easily irritated from waxing rather it won’t bother other body area. Threading eyebrows is a true skin saver for hair removal in the eye area.

Good with Retin-A Threading eyebrows doesn’t remove the top layer of skin like waxing. So even people that use Retin-A or take other medications that conflict with waxing, can still get threading.

Hair Growth Hairs don’t grow as fast or thick as after wax.

No Chemicals. Threading solely uses a string to remove the hair, unlike waxing that contains resins and preservatives. Artificial fragrances and ingredients are a foe to many with sensitive skin.

Definite shape Threading is the most precise way to remove brow hairs. This technique allows you to take a line of hair out at a time and therefore creates a more defined shape.

No one's allergic to string (Almost). Sometimes having an allergic reaction is mistaken as sensitivity. Waxes are often based on a certain ingredient like: lavender, tea tree, chocolate and the list goes on and on. With threading eyebrows there’s no need to worry.

How To Thread Your Eyebrows

Threading is done using one simple tool. This tool is a piece of one hundred percent cotton thread. One end of the thread is held between the teeth or is anchored around the neck of the beautician and the other end is held firmly with the left hand. The index and middle fingers of the right hand then form a loop in the center of the string. Some beauticians will apply baby powder to the eyebrows before they begin. The baby powder absorbs any oil around the hair follicles that may cause the hairs to slip from the thread when they pulled.

HOW TO .....
Once you are ready, cut a thread, roughly 20 inches in length and loop it by tying the free ends into a knot. You should have something like this -

Now hold the looped thread with both hands and twist it (or wind it) around the center of the loop, about 3-4 times. It should look like this -

Hold the wound thread with your fingers pointing outward (ie, away from your face), just as shown in the picture above. Now this is how you would be working on your upper lip. You'll need to practice the 'opening and closing' action, done by your fingers, to get a hang of it.

Like in the picture below, open your right hand wide (somewhat like a claw, except using only your index finger and your thumb to manoeuvre the central wound to the left of the loop) -

Now while closing the open right hand, simultaneously open the left hand, using the same index finger and thumb movement. The criss crossed point would move from the left to the right of the loop as you do this -

And that's it! Keep repeating this open and close action till you can do it easily. Once you'r comfortable with this action, simply try plucking a hair off your leg (since it's easiest to reach). Sit with your leg propped up, bent at the knee, and position the thread in such a way, that the single hair is on the left and the criss crossed (or wound part) of the loop is to it's right. Then repeat the above steps, opening with the right (in effect, pushing the wound point over the hair, twisting it to come out) and then back and forth till it comes out.

Initially, you will have to go back and forth quite a lot, before the hair starts plucking out easily. Keep at this for days or weeks, till you can easily pluck hair from your legs. When comfortable, try the same on your upper lip, and within 2-3 months, you should be alot more efficient at threading.

Nobody taught me how to thread myself and I learnt all by trial and error after having some read some vague instructions on how to go about it. But hey, I did learn it and so can you! If you have any confusion, or need some more clarification, drop me a line. I'll be glad to help out!
